From Gala Dinner to soup kitchens

The Italian meeting industry fights against food waste.

On the occasion of its VIII Convention held in Rome from 25 to 27 March, Federcongressi&Eventi signed an agreement with BancoAlimentare and Equoevento, two Italian no profit organizations active in the fight against food waste.

PCOs and caterers have witnessed huge waste for years. Gala dinners, coffee breaks, welcome drinks and lunches, plenty of excellent food thrown away.

Today we can make a difference.

Giuliana Malaguti, from BancoAlimentare says:” a single month cooperation with PCOs has already resulted in over 800 meals for people in need, thanks to the help of volunteers”.

“Simple and fast logistics, 1 hour delivery, consumption within 24 hours” is the enthusiastic comment of Francesco Colicci, cofounder of Equoevento,  a project created by young and dedicated lawyers and architects who are already exporting their idea abroad.

And now the experience of organizers.

  • Adolfo Parodi, Porto Antico di Genova – Centro Congressi dei Magazzini del Cotone : ” We made a test with 2 events. The caterer has put in a few extra hours of work, with enthusiasm. The experiment will go on”.
  • 500 meals recovered from Federica Lucini, marketing manager of Palacongressi di Rimini in 3 conventions with over  3300 partecipants. We involved our clients and they were very happy”.
  • “200 surgeons who met for 4 days enabled us to deliver 150 meals for families in need” says Mauro Zaniboni, president of Emmezeta congressi and supporter of the initiative.

PCO e caterers are ready to start.

But everybody may contribute. In front of a sumptuos buffet eat as much as you want but, please, do not leave uneaten food in your plate. It is a waste. And it cannot be “recycled”!
